Animals, particularly equines, can teach us so much and for many neurodivergent children and adults the opportunity to learn about ourselves alongside ponies and horses is liberating and powerful.
My name is Helen and I have combined my love of animals with my love of working with children to create our service. I have believed, for years, that equines have an innate ability to connect with children and young people in a unique and very meaningful way.
I am a qualified teacher and have been teaching children with additional needs for 22 years. I hold a diploma in Equine Facilitated Learning and in Equine Care and Management. I have completed first aid training and child protection training and am registered with One Equine and ACCPH as a practising coach. I am a member of the Equine assisted Services Partnership, more details of which can be found here: https://easp.co.uk/
We offer individual, paired and small group sessions (maximum of 4 children). Individual and paired sessions are planned and tailored to meet the needs of the participants.
All the work we do with the ponies is based on groundwork, there is no riding involved.
Sessions involve a range of activities to ensure children's interest and attention is sustained throughout. Examples of some of the skills we help to develop and support include gross and fine motor skills; communication skills; emotional and mental wellbeing; social skills and confidence. Learning to connect with and care for another living being, is in itself a rewarding experience and teaches responsibility, empathy and life skills in a fun and hands on way.
